n8n introduced a new product concept called Agents on September 25, 2026. An Agent is configured with a task, a model and the tools and workflows it is allowed to use. n8n positions Agents for open-ended or conversational work where a fully hard-coded workflow becomes cumbersome.
The new structure sits alongside existing workflows. An Agent can use existing n8n workflows as tools, while workflows can call an Agent through the new “Message an Agent” node. That makes the boundary between deterministic workflow logic and agentic decision-making more explicit.
The same configured Agent can be invoked through multiple entry points, including Slack conversations, schedules and other workflows. For AgentenCode, that is an architectural change because the Agent becomes an independently addressable unit with a defined model and tool surface.
Governance still depends on the tools, workflows and credentials granted to the Agent. The launch does not establish claims about hosting, data residency or human approval. Those controls remain separate and require their own primary-source evidence.
